What is Polynerv™1000 tablet?

Vitamin B1+ B6 + B12 (Polynerv™ 1000) contains the neurotropic agents B1, B6 and B12 which act in a concerted effort to help enhance efficient functioning of the nervous system. This potent combination of the major B vitamins is specifically valuable in the comprehensive management of various forms of neuropathies.

What is Polynerv™1000 tablet used for?

Polynerv™1000 tablet is used for the prophylaxis and treatment of vitamin B1, B6 and B12 deficiencies associated with restricted diet, illnesses, impaired absorption and utilization of B vitamins resulting from prolonged antibiotic therapy and intake of certain drugs.

It is also used as adjuvant or support in the comprehensive management of neuritis, polyneuritis, diabetes, alcoholism, drug induced neuropathies, hyperemesis gravidarum, optic neuritis, facial paresis, trigeminal neuralgia, shoulder-arm syndrome, herpes zoster, lumbago, numbness of the extremities and sciatica.

How should Polynerv™1000 tablet be taken?

Prophylactic: 1-2 tablets daily

Therapeutic: 2-4 tablets daily

Or as prescribed by the physician.

When should you not take Polynerv™1000 tablet?

Polynerv™ 1000 tablet should not be taken by patients with history of hypersensitivity or allergic reaction to any of its component.

What care or precautions should be observed when taking Polynerv™1000 tablet?

Polynerv™ 1000 tablet contains cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12), and should not be used to treat megaloblastic anemia of pregnancy.  Administration of doses greater than 10mcg of vitamin B12 daily may produce hematological response in patients with folate deficiency; indiscriminate use may mask the precise diagnosis. Cyanocobalamin should not be given to patients with suspected vitamin B12 deficiency without first confirming the diagnosis.  Regular blood monitoring is recommended.

What are the undesirable side effects of Polynerv™1000 tablet?

B vitamins are generally safe and well tolerated.

Adverse effects occur rarely after oral administration of thiamine and cyanocobalamin.  Hypersensitivity reactions have been reported after parenteral administration of thiamine.  Hypersensitivity reactions to parenteral thiamine ranged from mild to very rarely, anaphylactic shock.

Long-term administration of large doses of pyridoxine is associated with the development of severe reversible peripheral neuropathies.

What other medicines or food should be avoided while taking Polynerv™1000 tablet?

Polynerv™ 1000 tablet may reduce the effects of levodopa and altretamine. Serum concentrations of phenobarbital, neomycin, amino salicylic acid and phenytoin may also be decreased.  Vitamin B12 absorption may be reduced by H2-receptor antagonists, omeprazole and colchicine. Some drugs may increase the requirements for B complex including hydralazine, isoniazid, penicillamine and oral contraceptive pills.

What should you do if you miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, you must take it as soon as possible.  Do not double the next dose to make up for the missed one.  You may skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule if it is almost time for the next dose.

What are the signs and symptoms of overdose and what to do when you have taken more than the recommended dosage?

No cases of Vitamin B1 overdose has been reported. Vitamin B6 overdose is rare.  Overdose of Vitamin B12 is rare, too. Although an overdose is highly unlikely, call the doctor right away if you have any reason to suspect that one has occurred.

How should Polynerv™1000 tablet be stored?

Store at temperatures not exceeding 30°C.  Keep the medicine out of reach of children.

When should you consult your doctor?

Generally, any untoward adverse effects experienced with Polynerv™ 1000 tablet should immediately be reported to your doctor.
