What is in Antrazine Syrup?
Each 5 ml contains:
Cetirizine dihydrochloride, USP ......................... .........…………....……………. 5 mg

What is Cetirizine dihydrochloride (Antrazine)?
Antrazine is a strawberry menthol flavored syrup containing Cetirizine dihydrochloride, an antihistamine which causes less sedation than the others. This medicine diminishes the major actions of histamine in the body by blocking its release.

What is Cetirizine dihydrochloride used for?
This medicine is used for the relief of symptoms of various forms of allergy such as hay fever and urticaria.

How should Cetirizine dihydrochloride (Antrazine) be taken?

Children:
6 months – 2 yrs. old:
2.5 mg (2.5 ml) once daily.

2 – 5yrs.old:
5 mg (5 ml) once daily. Or 2.5 mg (2.5 ml) twice daily.

Adults and children 6yrs. old and above:
10mg (10ml) once daily. Or 5mg (5ml) twice daily. Or as prescribed by a physician.

When should you not take Cetirizine dihydrochloride? Do not take this medicine if the patient is allergic to cetirizine or to any constituent of the formulation.

What care or precautions should be observed when taking Cetirizine dihydrochloride?
Drowsiness is rare in the case of Cetirizine dihydrochloride (Antrazine) but it may still affect the performance of skilled tasks.

What are the undesirable side effects of Cetirizine dihydrochloride? Cetirizine may cause hypersensitivity reaction, sedation, headache, dizziness, agitation, dry mouth and gastrointestinal discomfort, arrhythmias, and hepatitis.

What other medicine or food should be avoided while taking Cetirizine dihydrochloride?
Sedating antihistamines may enhance the sedative effects of CNS depressants including alcohol, barbiturates, hypnotics, opioid analgesics, anxiolytics sedatives, and antipsychotics. Sedative interactions apply to a lesser extent with the non-sedating antihistamines; they do not appear to potentiate the effects of alcohol, but it should be avoided in excess.

What should you do if you miss a dose?
If you miss a dose, you must take it as soon as possible. Do not double the next dose to make up for the missed one. You may skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule if it is almost time for the next dose.

What are the signs and symptoms of overdose and what to do when you have taken more than recommended dosage?
There is no known specific antidote to cetirizine. Should overdose occur, symptomatic or supportive treatment is recommended. Cetirizine is not effectively removed by dialysis.

How should Cetirizine dihydrochloride be stored?
Store at temperatures not exceeding 30oC. Keep the medicine out of reach of children.

When should you consult your doctor?
Generally, any untoward adverse effects experienced with cetirizine dihydrochloride should immediately be reported to your doctor.
